Farmer's Wife - Week 37

We are on to week 37 of our Farmer's Wife Quilt-along, with just two more to go after this one! We have three more fairly simple blocks for this week.
  • Block 73 - Rainbow Flowers
  • Block 76 - Sawtooth
  • Block 84 - Spool

Block 73 - Rainbow Flowers

Rainbow Flowers should be fairly simple, but will take some precise cutting.  You will need the following parts cut (I reference my colors below):
  • 6 squares, cut to 2 inches; 1 dark green, 1 dark blue, 1 red, 1 white and 2 yellow
  • 2 rectangles in light green, cut 5 x 2 inches
  • 2 rectangles in light blue, cut 3 1/2 x 2 inches
After each step, be sure to iron your seams in one direction before going to the next step.

First assemble the bottom right 4-patch of red, yellow, and white squares.

Sew the dark blue square to the end of one light blue rectangle (this is Unit A), then sew the dark green square to the end of one light green rectangle (this is Unit B).

Next, sew the other light blue rectangle to the left side (be sure of the orientation) of the 4-patch.  Sew Unit A to the top of this new block, then attach the remaining light green rectangle to the left side.  Finally, sew Unit B to the top to finish the block.

Block 76 - Sawtooth

This block requires the following parts:
  • Nine HSTs finished to 1 inch.  If using the two-at-a-time method, start with 1 7/8 inch squares.
  • Two white triangles cut from a 1 7/8 inch square by cutting it in half diagonally.
  • One large white triangle that measures 4 7/8 inches on the two shorter sides.
  • One large green triangle that measures 6 7/8 inches on the two shorter sides.

To assemble the block, start by sewing four of the HSTs together in a row and attach one of the small white triangles to the end.  Sew this strip to one of the short sides of the large white triangle, being sure that the small white triangle is angled properly.

Next sew the remaining five HSTs together in a row and attach the other small white triangle to the end.  Attach this strip to the other short side of the large white triangle.

You should now have a large triangle the same size as the large green triangle; sew these together and you are done!

Block 84 - Spool

If you've kept up with our quilt-along this far, this block barely requires instructions, but here you go.  This block is a nine patch made up of the following parts:
  • Two white squares cut 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches
  • Two green squares cut 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches
  • One blue square cut 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches
  • Four HSTs finished to 2 inches (trimmed to 2 1/2 inches square); using the two-at-a-time method start with 2 7/8 inch squares
Assemble the parts, first in rows, then join the rows together.
