Farmer's Wife - Week 4

For Week 4 of our Farmer's Wife Quilt Along, we'll be creating Block 1, Attic Window , and Block 2, Autumn Tints.  We'll be using foundation paper piecing for Attic Window and brute force measured piecing for Autumn Tints.

Block 1, Attic Window

I have created a foundation paper piecing template you can download here for this block.  This is a one-piece foundation, so should go together fairly quickly.  I have numbered the sections so you know the order you should proceed.

REMINDER: Please be sure to print the templates at 100% scale, not "Shrink to Fit", to be sure you get them to the correct size for 6 inch blocks.

Block 2, Autumn Tints

Using the colors shown in the image below, you will need to cut the following squares:
  • Two 3 1/2 inch squares in green
  • Two 2 inch squares in blue
  • Two 2 inch squares in red
  • Four 2 inch squares in white
Assemble the small four-patch squares (1 red, 1 blue, 2 white) two times.  Then assemble the final block with the colors arranged properly.

  1. I have this book and have never started it. Maybe now is the time.

  2. Hi, Helen, I don't have the book, but I understand it's a fascinating look at life in the 1920's with letters from readers of the Farmer's Wife magazine in response to a question about whether the reader would encourage her daughter to marry a farmer. Of course, plus the patterns on CD. Enjoy!

  3. I have the Farmer's Wife Book with CD. I made 12 blocks by hand with templates. I love hand work. I will now try this by machine.
