This week we'll be making three more fairly simple blocks for our Farmer's Wife Quilt-along. All of the blocks include only HSTs and squares. The blocks are:
- Block 88 - Star of Hope
- Block 102 - Whirlpool
- Block 103 - Whirlwind
Block 88 - Star of Hope
Star of Hope has HSTs to two sides of a large square. Be careful to set the HST on each end at a different angle than the others. We will need the following units:
- Eight HSTs finished to 1 3/16 inches. Start with 2 1/4 inch squares and use our favorite tutorial to make them two at a time.
- One large square cut 5 3/8 inches.
- One small square cut 1 11/16 inches.

Block 102 - Whirlpool
This block is made of 16 HSTs. I'm using two fabrics for this, so will be making two groups of the same eight HSTs; as such, I'm going to use
this tutorial that makes eight HSTs at a time. Your target will be to make the HSTs 1 1/2 inches finished, 2 inches trimmed before assembly.
Once you have your 16 HSTs ready, be sure to lay them out to get them angled properly for the "whirlpool" affect.

Block 103 - Whirlwind
As promised, this block requires even more HSTs! These will be the same size as for Whirlpool, above, finished 1 1/2 inches, 2 inches trimmed before assembly. You will need the following:
- Eight blue and white HSTs - for my layout, I can use the 8-at-a-time tutorial again.
- Four squares cut 2 x 2 inches from blue fabric
- One square cut 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches for the center
Again, lay out the pieces to get the HSTs angled properly before assembly.
