Ashley's T-Shirt Quilt - Davidson College

My niece, Ashley, is graduating from college, so another quilt project has been completed!  I didn't want to give away the surprise, so you haven't seen this one in progress.  It's another custom, stained-glass, two-sided quilt with t-shirts on one side and college themed fabric on the other side, very similar to the UF Sigma Kappa quilt I made for Samantha several years ago.

Ashley's family gathered up many of her saved t-shirts from elementary through high school years and shipped them to me.  I enjoy the process of arranging everything, trying to keep the color and value distribution even, as well as creating the "clusters" of small pieces; pocket squares and the narrow, wide graphics that sometimes occur on the chest, across the back, or down a sleeve.  It was fun to see how the t-shirt sizes changed, from very small children's sizes all the way up to adult.

Here is the Davidson College themed side of the quilt, with a t-shirt as the centerpiece, from her time there.  Having this be a surprise somewhat limited their ability to get me t-shirts from her Davidson years because she was still a student there when I started in December.  But she may still want to wear those for a while anyway.

So, Ashley opened her gift last night and her father reports that she loved it.  My wish for her is that this quilt will not only keep her warm, but also help her remember some good times as she embarks on her next adventure.

Congratulations, Ashley!
