I have just finished the rest of the six inch quilt blocks for my
Blue & White Sampler quilt! I probably should have posted them in smaller batches, but I'm anxious to keep going. I previously posted the first eight of the six inch blocks and now here are eleven more.
See each of the blocks below along with an updated layout of all of my Blue & White Sampler blocks so far.
Star of Virginia
I saw this block on the
Swim-Bike-Quilt blog (nice tutorial included) and found the simplicity charming. Further research has me wondering if this is the real name of this block, but it is very similar to the block of the same name on
Quilter's Cache. The only difference is that the center square isn't a square-in-a-square.

Log Cabin Variation
I pinned the info for this block in Pinterest a while back and was pleased to be able to try it out for myself. It's attributed to the
Password:Quilt blog where she has great visual instructions.

Jacob's Ladder
This quilt block would work well in combination with Irish Chain blocks. I found it on the
Generations Quilt Patterns website with good instructions.

Florida Star
When I came across this block, I had to make it, considering that I live in Florida. I found the block on
Quilter's Cache, where paper piecing templates are provided for the 4 "side" sections. The other five sections are pieced using easy piecing techniques.

Moonlight Star
I found Moonlight Star on the
McCall's Quilting website. They give instructions for a 12 inch block, but I was able to easily cut the measurements in half for a six inch block; however, I will say that the smaller size was difficult. All of the triangle and square points coming together made for some interesting ironing. I love how it turned out, but I fear it may pose some problems during the quilting process.

Cathy's Campfire
This is another
Quilter's Cache quilt block, but it hardly requires instructions. Four squares and eight flying geese make this one come together pretty quickly. (Not sure what was going on with the lighting, so my apologies for the bad colors.)

Fiddler's Jig
As I've mentioned before, I really don't want this sampler quilt to end up being all about star blocks, so was glad to come across this unusual block on
Quilter's Cache. I like the little bit of visual play in the blocks. Are those little arrows going toward the center?

Go Along #2
Rarely do I come across a star quilt block I haven't seen before, but this one is pretty neat (and simple). And, again, from
Quilter's Cache. Using two different fabrics for the star tips, also brings to mind a spinning star!

Star of Destiny
A paper pieced block,
Star of Destiny kept me on my toes because it was difficult to keep my bearings. The center hourglass block is separate from the odd shaped parts around. To make it more complicated there ends up being one inset piece, but it came out very nice.

Modified Rising Star
I made the Rising Star block in
my first 8 of the six inch blocks and had an idea about how to modify it, so here it is. In addition to using the darker blue fabric in some places, I added a little light blue triangle to the larger flying geese units.

Another Ohio Star
I made this block as one of the first 8 of my six inch blocks and thought it would look good with the color values reversed. And I was right, I think it looks great!

Progress Overall
Here is a version of a layout with all of the blocks I've made so far. As you can see, I've been playing around with how I might do this, breaking away from my original layout (but still using the blue grid background for alignment. I have been thinking that I might not want the pieced blocks all touching each other, so this layout has them them mostly spaced out. I haven't decided what I'll end up with, but I think I'll not make quite as many four inch blocks as planned, just in case I decide to do more solid strips between.

So, what's next? Lots of four inch blocks...
